you are not serious, are you? he’s not lying. everything he’s saying is FACTS. slavery set african americans back, we had to fight for every right we have when it was given to others as a basic right and biology was used to support the reasons why we were inferior to them. interracial marriage wasn’t even legal until the late 60s, segregation wasn’t over until 1964 — less than 50 years ago. yes, we may have equal rights now but racism still exists in this country. and because we want to talk about it, we’re keeping it around? no, that’s not how it works. as a black person, i refuse to silence the history of my people because it makes someone else uncomfortable.

You’re doing just as much to separate blacks from everyone else as the white red neck with a confederate flag flying in his yard. That’s also what the man in the gifs is doing. And no, blacks aren’t totally equal to whites yet. There’s still a gap in the amount of money blacks make compared to whites. That does need to be fixed. And I am all for that being talked about so that I can be fixed. But that isn’t what you’re talking about and that definitely isn’t what he’s talking about.

i’ve heard that morgan freeman interview and i don’t agree with it, sorry to disappoint. having black history month is not separating us, it’s allowing us to be proud of how far we’ve come, LITERALLY from the ground up. i said it once and i’ll say it again, i am not going to silence myself because it makes you uncomfortable! this is REALITY i’m talking about here. we need these history lessons because these young black kids growing up now don’t know! schools aren’t doing what they should to educate them. they need to know about things like slavery, the achievement gap, the fact that african americans are still effected by the slave mentality that white slave owners built to control us. they built the dark skinned vs. light skinned debate. they built the good hair vs. bad hair debate. house slaves vs. field slaves, it ALL still goes on today. there are little black girls who strive to be like the ideal white woman they see on television every day because they have been fed these lies that they are inferior because she has lighter skin, better hair, prettier eyes, a desirable figure. the list goes on and on.

so yes, slavery DOES effect the present state of blacks in this country, and the more you try to say that bringing slavery up keeps racism alive the more ignorant you sound. no one is saying “oh my god fuck white people for doing this to us!” that’s not the point, the point is that we are trying to turn our negatives into positives that have been instilled in us since we got to this country as slaves. do me a favor and listen to the WHOLE poem here before you try to talk out of the side of your neck because it is evident that you only have a slight grasp on what you’re talking about. better yet, take an african american studies class, get a better grasp on what it’s like to be black in america and then try to understand the point.
